WAVERLEY WIND FARM
WAVERLEY WIND FARM
2009
Waverley farmers Warwick Lupton and David Alexander are progressing with the development of a wind power development on their land at Waverley. The development stalled in late 2008 after the failure of Australian based developers Allco Wind Energy.
Mr Lupton and Mr Alexander believe this is an exciting development which will bring considerable benefit to Waverley and the surrounding districts and will introduce a significant volume of renewable energy to the region. Of key importance will be engagement with the people of Waverley and ensuring the local economy gains from the large infrastructure development.
“This presents a great opportunity for the community to benefit from a significant infrastructure development prior, during and after the construction of the wind farm.” said Mr Alexander.
The site has the potential the supply the annual energy needs of over 65,000 homes and could be completed as early as 2011/12.
It is expected that a website (www.waverleywind.co.nz) will be launched in the coming weeks timed to coincide with commercial engagement with interested development partners. All commercial enquiries are being handled by Greg Adlam of Carbon & Energy Partners Limited.
